Comparative - comparing two things
Superlative - comparing three or more things
If an adjective has a short vowel and ends with one consonant (Phonetic Skill 1),
double the consonant and add er or est.

If an adjective has a short vowel and two consonants (Phonetic Skill 2), two vowels (Phonetic Skill 5) or another vowel pattern,
just add er or est.

If an adjective ends in an e (Phonetic Skill 4), drop the e and add er or est.
(Or think of it as adding r and st.)
