Ways to Practice Spelling Words
Rainbow Words: Write each word in one color. Trace over the word with a different color. Repeat as many times as you want.

Cut & Paste: Cut letters out of a newspaper or magazine to spell words. Paste on a piece of paper.

3xs Each: Handwrite or type each word 3 xs.

Building Words: Build words out of toothpicks, cheerios, legos, etc.

Fancy Letters: Use fancy letters to write your words.
Partner Spelling: Spell words with a partner. Take turns spelling the word one letter at a time.
Guessing Game: Trace the word on a partner's back. Have the other person guess the word you spelled.

Word Creation: Create the words from play dough, pipe cleaners, yarn, etc.
Mnemonic Device: Make up a rhyme or draw a picture to help you remember how to spell the word.
Practice Spelling Test: Have an adult ask you how to spell the words. Write the words or say them out loud.

Move & Spell: Spell the words as you do one of the following: jump rope, bounce a ball, jumping jacks, hula hoop, hop on one foot, etc.

Consonants/Vowels: Write the word. Trace the vowels in blue (a, e, o, u, i and sometimes y) and the consonants in red.

ABC Order: Put the words in ABC order.

Sensory: Spell the words using any of the following: sand, shaving cream, rice, etc.
