Adding endings for verb tenses!
If a verb has a short vowel and ends with one consonant (Phonetic Skill 1),
double the consonant and add ed or ing.

If a verb has a short vowel with 2 consonants (Phonetic Skill 2), 2 adjacent vowels (Phonetic Skill 5) or another vowel pattern, just add ed or ing.

change the y to an i and add ed but keep the y to add ing.
